PSG Congratulates Dr Ian Homer Cua on His Election to APAGE Council & Appointment as APDW 2026 Congress President

The Philippine Society of Gastroenterology (PSG) proudly announces that Prof.
We are proud to announce that Dr. Ian Homer Cua, MD, has been elected as a Member of the Council of the Asian Pacific Association of Gastroenterology (APAGE) for the 2025–2027 term. His election is a testament to his enduring contributions to gastroenterology and hepatology within the Philippines and across the Asia-Pacific region.
Role and Significance
The APAGE Council is the principal governing body of the Association, comprising members elected from its constituent societies and regional affiliate organizations. Its responsibilities include:
1. Setting strategic direction and policy for the Association
2. Overseeing education, training, and professional development initiatives
3. Guiding collaboration across the Asia-Pacific region in digestive health
4. Promoting research, quality care, and capacity-building in gastroenterology and hepatology
Being elected to the Council places Dr. Cua in a pivotal role to shape and influence regional programs, partnerships, and the advancement of digestive health in the Asia-Pacific.
APDW 2026 Congress President
In parallel, Dr. Cua also serves as Congress President for APDW 2026, which will be held in Manila from November 24 to 28, 2026. The APDWF organises APDW in collaboration with APAGE and other major regional organisations, and it is the annual premier scientific meeting addressing gastroenterology, hepatology, and digestive endoscopy. His leadership of APDW 2026 highlights the Philippines’ growing role as a host and contributor to high-impact international meetings in digestive medicine.
Looking Ahead
Under Dr. Cua’s guidance, we anticipate:
- Enhanced collaboration between the Philippines and regional GI/hepatology societies
- Expanded training and mentorship opportunities for Philippine gastroenterologists in APAGE programmes
- A successful and high-profile APDW 2026 in Manila, showcasing local expertise and hospitality
