PSG Celebrates Dr. Jose D. Sollano as Inaugural Master, APAGE Awardee

November 18, 2025

The Philippine Society of Gastroenterology (PSG) proudly announces that Prof. Jose D. Sollano, esteemed Past President of our three Societies, and one of the country’s most respected leaders in gastroenterology and hepatology, has been conferred the title Master, APAGE—the highest honor bestowed by the Asian Pacific Association of Gastroenterology (APAGE).

This recognition is particularly historic, as 2025 marks the inaugural year of the Master, APAGE Award, established to honor senior and distinguished gastroenterologists in the Asia-Pacific region who have demonstrated exemplary leadership, scholarship, and service to the field. Dr. Sollano is among the very first in Asia to receive this prestigious distinction, bringing pride not only to the PSG but to the entire Filipino medical community.

A Lifetime of Leadership and Excellence

The APAGE Council highlighted that the Master, APAGE Award honors individuals who have made significant, long-standing contributions to gastroenterology, both nationally and internationally. The criteria include holding leadership roles in APAGE and affiliated organizations, advancing digestive health advocacy, and earning widespread professional respect.

Dr. Sollano’s career embodies these ideals. A professor at the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, he has been a champion of medical education, research, evidence-based practice, and regional collaboration. His work has strengthened the Philippines’ role in the Asia-Pacific gastroenterology community, fostering partnerships and elevating the standards of care and training.

Within PSG, his leadership has helped advance core pillars of the Society in training, research, policy engagement, and health equity, aligning with the organization’s vision of cultivating world-class Filipino gastroenterologists committed to exceptional digestive healthcare.

A Milestone for the Philippine Gastroenterology Community

The conferment ceremony will be held during the APAGE Reception at APDW 2025 in Singapore. This milestone reinforces the growing visibility and impact of Filipino gastroenterologists in the Asia-Pacific region.

An Inspiration for Future Generations

As the PSG continues its mission to enhance training, promote high-quality research, advance policy for digestive health, and expand access to care, Dr. Sollano’s legacy stands as a powerful example of how Filipino gastroenterologists can shape the future of digestive health locally and globally.

The Philippine Society of Gastroenterology celebrates this momentous achievement with immense pride.

Congratulations, Prof. Jose D. Sollano, Master, APAGE. Your leadership and dedication continue to elevate and inspire our entire community.
