The Council on Gastrointestinal Malignancies of the Philippine Society of Gastroenterology headed by Dr. Jun Ruiz launched the first leg of the planned year-round Colorectal Cancer Awareness Campaign in Batangas City last August 17, 2025. The kick-off event was a collaboration between the Council and the PSG Southern Luzon Chapter headed by Dr. Donnazon Reyes-Macasaet.

This public service event marks the realization of the Council’s objective in expanding the colorectal cancer awareness and education of Filipino patients from the traditional campaign exclusively in March to a whole year advocacy, wherein community outreach and education of the disease via social media will be the essential foundation in further expanding the advocacy. An orientation of the barangay health workers (who will become our frontliners in this campaign) on colorectal cancer screening was also conducted, a first in the country.
