Message from the President

Dr Duque

It is with joy and honor that I serve as the 38th President of the Philippine Society of Gastroenterology. Celebrating its 60th founding anniversary in 2020, the PSG remains steadfast in its commitment to be an organization of competent gastroenterologists with the highest level of moral and ethical values dedicated to the practice and promotion of the specialty in the country.

At the onset of my presidency, I informed the PSG Board that I shall lead and serve with visions in mind and build up from the foundations laid down by my predecessors. I started my term with three goals in order to have a clear direction as to where we, as an organization, are heading this year. These are: membership engagement, enhanced external collaborations, and fiscal reforms.

It is my belief that the sustainability and future of our organization lies in the collective contribution of each and every member. This year, activities to generate interest and promote involvement and commitment to the society especially by the new members will be given priority. It is anticipated that these activities will lead to more participation by the new members in the committees, councils, scientific activities and advocacies of the organization.

Our society has a lot of room to improve on our collaborations with other organizations, government policy making and regulatory bodies, and the national and local government units. Efforts will be made to reach out and build bridges with this organizations so that PSG does not pass on the chance to be heard when important decisions are made.

The cost of maintaining the operations of our society and the environment in which we operate is fast changing. To cope up, fiscal reforms will be implemented to include cost cutting measures and fund generating activities independent of biopharmaceutical industry support.

We are halfway in our fiscal year. Work is in progress but there is still a lot to be desired. I am optimistic that with your support and the dedication of the hard working members of the Board of Directors, these goals will be realized.

Thank You.

Felipe Gozar L. Duque, MD
